Picture
On the night of April 16, 2012 Brookhaven Fire Department was toned out along with Shirley EMS for a house fire at 29 Auburn Avenue.  Suffolk County Police arrived on the scene and found that there was smoke showing and radioed back to dispatch to advise working fire.  Chief Peter DiPinto Jr. was en route and radioed back to firecom to re-tone his department for a working fire.  Yaphank Fire Department was requested for an engine and Mastic Fire Department was requested for a RIT Team.  First due engine into the scene picked a water supply that was about 100 ft. away from the fire building.  Firefighters made their way into the basement and made a fast knock down on the fire.  Firefighters searched the house to make sure that there was nobody trapped.   All searches came back negative. There was a dog inside which made it out safe and was given oxygen by EMS.  The cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated by the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal.  Shirley EMS set up a rehab center for the firefighters.

Fire Rips Through Historic Red Barn in Brookhaven

Picture
A fire ripped through and destroyed a century-old historic barn located at 311 Beaver Dam Road in Brookhaven Monday evening, January 18, 2010. The Brookhaven Fire Department received a call for a reported structure fire around 9:09 pm.  The department was on their way back to the firehouse from a call when the alarm was toned out.

Upon arrival they found a fully involved structure fire and called for mutual aid. The fire burned for almost two hours as fire departments from Brookhaven, Bellport, Hagerman and Mastic battled the blaze. The South Country Ambulance service also responded to the seen.  The fire completely destroyed the barn and threatened a nearby house located less than 20 feet from the main body of fire. There was no reported damage to the house although at one point during the operation the cedar shingles did begin to steam.  South Country Ambulance transported two firefighters with non life-treating injures to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital.  The Fire is under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad and the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshals Office. There's no word on how the fire started.

Ice Water Rescue Drill Huge Success

Picture
On a frigid morning on the tenth of January, the Brookhaven Fire Department held an intense ice rescue drill at Squassux Landing in the Hamlet.  Lucky for all, the canals were frozen over and gave us an opportune time to train in difficult conditions.

Multiple evolutions were done to simulate victim removal on surface ice and also submersion scenarios.  Using diverse techniques and tools, all victims were rescued successfully.  Job well done by all in frigid conditions!

BHFD Receives New Forcible Entry Training Door from Firehouse Innovations Corporation

Picture
On December 6, 2009, members of the Brookhaven Fire Department were delivered a new forcible entry training door by Firehouse Innovations.  Giving an in-depth orientation was inventor and FDNY firefighter Mike Perrone.  The training door allows firefighters to easily simulate forcing entry into a residence or commercial structure along with using strategic techniques and maneuvers.  The door has taken a pounding since put into service and has taught our members important skills to use on the fireground.
